Then, she finds an escape: a gold watch that takes her back in time thirty years, to see her mother at this same cottage as a girl! She soon becomes better acquainted with her mother’s past, and learns some things that earn her respect from her cousins. Her cousins are nothing like her and want nothing to do with her, and worst of all, she gets sympathy from her aunt and uncle over her parents’ divorce.
